Who Influences You?
Some believe that we become the collective sum of the six people we spend the most time with. Who are you spending time with?
- Inspire you to be your best self
- Support opportunities to develop news skills
- Value your contribution
- Seek solutions to challenges
Or people who:
- Gossip about others
- Create self-doubt
- Ignore your contribute
- Complain about challenges
If you spend most of your time at work with the first group great job. Keep building that supportive professional network.
If you spend more time with people in the second group, then you need to network to find more positive co-workers to be your work buddies. This is why professional networking is a must-do throughout your career.
If you can’t find positive co-workers at your company then you need to network professionally outside of your company. Service organizations like the Rotary, Kiwanis, Optimist Club or others are great places to meet positive professionals and do a little good for your community.
Finally, ask yourself which category your co-workers would put you in? If it’s not the first group, then challenge yourself to make the changes so it becomes that group. This will probably mean you’ll need to change who you spend time with.
Spending time with people who inspire us makes it easier to be someone who inspires others. Our thoughts are the foundation for being happier at work.
