The Happy (Campaign) Trails Award
Positive Political Campaign Receives the The Happy (Campaign) Trails Award

(Oct. 22, 2002)-In a year, where dirty seems to be too clean of a word to describe the mud slinging of political campaigns, the Secret Society of Happy People is proud to award:

The Happy (Campaign) Trails Award:For Excellence in Political Campaign Media Philosophy to
Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn

an incumbent candidate for Texas Comptroller
Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn, has provided one of the few positive moments in a campaign year that's been one of the dirtiest on record. Carol's media ads have focused on her achievements and future goals. Her "one tough grandma" tag line provides a rare humorous moment in an otherwise bleak campaign year.

"There are far too many political mud slingers to count this year. It's no wonder that voters are cranky about their choices of candidates-to the point that they aren't motivated to vote for anyone,"says Society Founder Pamela Gail Johnson. Ironically, these mud slinging campaigns become so muddy that they become news stories and even receive free air time.

"We're excited to see that there's one tough grandma who is forging new frontiers for positive campaigns," says Pamela Gail. "We hope more candidates will follow her lead."

As one Society member puts it, "When you're slinging mud, you're losing ground."
