Yesterday, a friend sent me a text saying, “We need to get masks because of the Coronavirus.”

That’s after a week of reading posts about people’s fears of it in my Facebook feed.

Of course, the news is also filled with Coronavirus stories leaving everyone to wonder if we really have the information needed to know what the threat really is.

Since Wall Street doesn’t like uncertainty the stock market has been in a free fall, impacting so many people’s retirement accounts.

The world feels scary and uncertain this week.

I don’t want to tell anyone how to feel about these real concerns.

However, I’ve lived long enough now to know that these things usually settle down and things do work out. These are just happiness zapper blips.

In case you are wondering, I told my friend that I didn’t need a mask, but thanks for thinking of me. However, realistically I might be cautious about future international travel plans until we get a little more information about what’s going on.

And the markets will stabilize–eventually because they always do.

So how do you keep your happy during this window of uncertainty:

  • Limit the amount of time you watch the news and read your social media feeds if they are filled with “what if” news. You want to be informed so you can make good decisions. However, you don’t need to keep hearing “worst case scenario” over and over because it just increases your stress.
  • Happiness is an inside job that reflects what you pay attention to. So, ask yourself, are you noticing everything that’s going right too? You need to do this to help counter balance everything that feels scary and uncertain.
  • Happiness usually results from many small experiences and moments that we often take for granted. Make a point to notice them and count them. We have a Happiness Counter on the Resource Page and our SOHP App.
  • Acknowledge your concerns, stay informed, but don’t obsess about them. If you start to feel ill, go to the doctor. If you’re financially concerned, call your financial adviser–that’s what you pay them for.

Finally, if you’re the praying, meditating, and good vibe kind of person, do that for everyone adversely impacted by this chaos. They can use your positive energy and giving it will make you feel better to.

I recently saw this quote, “Every storm runs out of rain,” which is a song title by country singer, Gary Allan. This one will also pass, and we’ll see more of those rainbows.

Your mission should you choose to accept it this week is to:

Laugh More —

Do something silly, call a friend,
watch a funny movie or sitcom, go to a comedy club,
watch silly videos, try laughter yoga,
sing out loud, or play with your kids or grandkids.

We all have our favorite laughter instigators…do those this week.

If you’re really ambitious, try to laugh a little bit each day.

???? ???? ????
Part of my Mardi Gras celebration included working this puzzle that reminded me of a Mardi Gras ball.

Puzzles are my stress reliever.

When I work them my mind centers which allows me some non-thinking time which ironically can be when your mind finds solutions.

I usually work puzzles when I’m in a writing space so, you can guess I’ve been writing.

That’s also one of my Smile Starters.

Well, if you write much then you know most writers like “having written.”

We have a new SOHP Subscriber Resource page with lots of the goodies for you to download.

Some days you just need to need to raise your vibe.

One of the easiest ways to do that is to count your happy moments.

The Society identified 31 Types of Happiness to help you do that. I think of them as Mojo Magnets.

We also have a Happiness Counter you can print in our resource center or it’s on our app at SOHP.

This week notice how many times you laugh or find something humorous. Laughing increases all of those happy chemicals in our body. We can all use that.
