This past weekend I ventured out of Dallas to attend Social Boom, a social media conference hosted by Kim Garst, in Tampa. For much of the time, my head was spinning with all of the “new” ~ new information, new people, new apps, and new social media to do’s. Oh, and did I forget to mention, new inspiration on how to better connect with more not-so-secretly happy people.
That’s the beauty of learning, it exhilarates us, especially, when we do it with other people interested in whatever we are learning about too.
It’s back-to-school time so I’m challenging you to learn something new in the next two weeks. It doesn’t have to be as intensive as going to a conference but it needs to be something new to you. Consider:
- Cooking an entire meal with all new recipes and don’t forget to share it with friends (maybe new ones that you keep thinking you want to get to know better)
- Learning a new app on your phone – lots of my friends are playing SongPop
- Joining a new online community – I find Pinterest a great happy pick-me-up and Goodreads is an oasis for book lovers
- Attending a lecture at a community college, library, or even store about anything you find interesting – think history, current events, gardening, home improvement or sports
- Taking a craft class at your local craft store, then make something fun for the holidays
- Taking a yoga or Zumba class
Challenge yourself to do something that interests you, but also try to go a little outside your comfort zone so it exhilarates you. Learning sparks happiness in our mind and our soul.
Happy Learning…and do share what you’d like to learn in the next couple of weeks. I really want to know.

Yes, it is very interesting to do something new; it challenges us to learn more from ourselves and from others.
Love this statement “Challenge yourself to do something that interests you, but also try to go a little outside your comfort zone so it exhilarates you.” YESS!!
Fantastic article! We will never know our full potential unless we try things a bit out of our comfort zone!
Wonderful post! I absolutely loved attending Social Boom! I agree it is so important to challenge ourselves in order to grow. Thanks 🙂
It was so nice to meet you at Social Boom! Thank you for the challenge to try something new!
I love the opening quote Pamela ~ So true! I agree with you on the need to always have learning something new scheduled. I plan my learning in advance, so I’m stuck with my current project, which is learning how to REALLY use LinkedIn. I wish it was something more fun, but I don’t have a lot of time for that right now. If I did, I would chose to learn to knit because I’ve been trying for years and still can’t make more than a dish rag . . .
It is ALWAYS good to be challenged; it makes us more alert; Thnaks
Challenges make our mind work and trying new things make us grow. We can always do more if we don’t put a limit on ourselves.
